November 30, 2015 -- MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) developerInSightec announced that its ExAblate Neuro system was approved by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety to treat movement, pain, and behavioral disorders.


ExAblate Neuro offers a noninvasive treatment alternative that combines two technologies: high-intensity focused ultrasound to ablate tissue deep in the brain and also MRI to guide the ultrasound waves to the specific targeted tissue and provide real-time feedback on treatment progress and outcome.


The regulatory approval allows Korean patients with neurological disorders that cause significant disability access to a new treatment option that does not require open surgery, the firm said.
