Focused Ultrasound

High-energy sound waves that create heat. This technology is often used in treatments that require the destruction of internal tissue or cells.

HIFU

Acronym for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound

High Intensity Focused Ultrasound

High-energy sound waves that create heat. This technology is often used in treatments that require the destruction of internal tissue or cells.

High Intensity Focused Ultrasound Surgery

Treatment which uses high-energy sound waves aimed directly at an area of abnormal cells or tissue in the body. The ultrasound waves heat/ablate targeted cells or tissue, without damaging surrounding structures.

High Intensity Focused Ultrasound Therapy

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), is a medical imaging technique used in radiology to visualize detailed internal structures, often used to view patients' internal cells, tissues, and organs. MRI involves no ionizing radiation.

MR guided Focused Ultrasound Treatment

See MR guided Focused Ultrasound

MR guided Focused Ultrasound

A system used for treatment using a high intensity focused ultrasound beam that heats and destroys targeted tissue. Combined with Magnetic Resonance Imaging which provides a visual of the patient's anatomy to help control the treatment in progress.
