MRgFUS is a powerful technological tool available in Oncology. Palliative treatment of painful metastatic lesions is one of its fastest growing areas of application.
The presentations of Dr. Inbar & Dr. Gomez-Gonzales give an overview of the technology, discuss the features of the new conformal bone system and provide clinical results. The results from the phase I study sowed that MRgFUS provides safe and effective, non-invasive alternative for pain palliation in patients suffering from metastatic bone disease. They also showed that the new conformal bone system has the potential to provide access to more anatomical locations.
The presentation of Dr. Napoli evaluates the clinical performance of MRgFUS as a primary treatment of painful bone metastases and explores its potential effects on local tumor control. It concludes that MRgFUS can be safely and effectively used as a primary treatment for pain palliation in patients with bone metastases, and that MRgFUS might have a future role for local tumor control.
