Uterine fibroid procedures cost society more than $10,000 per patient each year, even when a woman doesn't have surgery, U.S. health economists say.
At the recent annual meeting of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, a poster discused the health economics of uterine fibroid treatments - UPI reports.
Just the direct and indirect costs associated with absenteeism and medical care can equal about $12,000 for the person who doesn't choose an invasive procedure, said David Lee, senior director for health economics and outcomes research at GE Healthcare in Waukesha, Wis.
