A chapter about blood-brain barrier by focused ultrasound has been published in the new book entitled:  Drug Delivery to the Central Nervous System.
A detailed description of the method for MR-guided focal blood-brain barrier disruption (BBBD) in animals is described in this chapter.

A major challenge to drug delivery in the brain is caused by the blood-brain barrier (BBB).  Current strategies for overcoming the BBB are invasive and non-targeted.  As an alternative, non-invasive transietn and local image-guided BBBD can be accomplished using focused ultrasound (FUS).  Evaluation in vivo using MR guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) showed minimal adverse effects, as compared to invasive interventions.
